Job Summary
As a Nursing Unit Assistant, you will:
- Work in a team-based environment to support the delivery of client care.
- Prioritize client and family needs above all other concerns.
- Perform a variety of clerical duties, including:
- Transcribing and processing physicians’ orders.
- Coordinating client appointments, tests, and transportation with other departments and hospitals.
- Receiving visitors, answering phones, and prioritizing requests.
- Assembling and maintaining client charts, and arranging admissions and discharges.
- Perform timekeeping functions and compile statistics.
- Utilize computer systems and software to type and distribute technical and non-technical reports.
- Maintain inventory of stationery supplies and ensure filing systems are organized.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Grade 12 diploma.
- Completion of a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk program.
- 1 year of recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Proficiency in medical terminology is required.
Knowledge & Abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with others in a team environment.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Keyboard speed of 40 w.p.m.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Proficiency in operating related equipment and utilizing a variety of computer software applications.
