The World Bank is looking for prospective Young Professionals (YPs) to join us from around the world with diverse backgrounds, exceptional technical skills, outstanding leadership potential, and a demonstrated commitment to WBG mission and values.
YPs join the World Bank Group as Technical Specialists, Economists, and Associate Investment Officers on an initial five-year term contract, renewable based on performance. During their first two years, they have the unique opportunity to deepen their knowledge and experience through rotational assignments across the World Bank Group.
The YPP is highly competitive and attracts candidates from around the world, typically those with advanced degrees (master’s or PhD) in relevant disciplines, such as economics, finance, international relations, public policy, or engineering. Successful candidates are expected to have a strong academic background, significant professional experience, and demonstrated leadership potential. The program seeks individuals who are not only technically proficient but also committed to the mission of the World Bank Group and capable of working in diverse, multicultural environments.
Over a two-year period, young professionals in the program engage in both formal learning and on-the-job training, working alongside experienced professionals on real-world projects that span sectors like infrastructure, health, education, and private sector development. Participants rotate across different departments and geographic locations within the WBG, giving them exposure to various facets of the organization’s operations and opportunities to contribute to large-scale development initiatives. They also benefit from mentorship, leadership training, and networking opportunities, all aimed at accelerating their career progression within the organization.
At the conclusion of the program, YPP graduates are typically placed in full-time roles within the World Bank Group, where they continue to develop their skills and make meaningful contributions to global development projects. The World Bank Group Young Professionals Program plays a key role in building a pipeline of talented, motivated professionals who can drive innovation and address some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
Additionally, YPs take part in a structured learning and talent development journey through our YP Academy. Key elements include technical and operations training, language programs, negotiation and business skills, and leadership development. YPs also receive one-on-one coaching, connect with mentors, and engage in strategy-focused dialogues with senior leaders.
