2025 IUSSP Early Career Awards

The IUSSP Early Career Award is offered in the following world regions: Africa,  Asia and the Pacific, Europe,  Latin America and the Caribbean, and North America.  One award will be bestowed per region in a unique collaboration with the Union for African Population Studies (UAPS), the Asian Population Association (APA), the European Association for Population Studies (EAPS), the Latin American Population Association (ALAP), and the Population Association of America (PAA).

The IUSSP Early Career Awards are prestigious honors presented by the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP) to recognize and support the work of outstanding early-career scholars in the field of demography and population studies. These awards aim to highlight the contributions of emerging researchers who have shown great promise in advancing knowledge and understanding of population dynamics, including areas such as fertility, mortality, migration, health, and development. The goal of the awards is to encourage and support young researchers as they establish themselves in the field and continue contributing to important demographic research.

The awards are open to researchers who are in the early stages of their careers, typically within five years of receiving their PhD or equivalent degree. Recipients of the IUSSP Early Career Awards are selected based on the quality, originality, and impact of their research, as well as their potential to continue making significant contributions to population studies. In addition to recognizing academic excellence, the awards promote the inclusion of diverse perspectives and interdisciplinary approaches to addressing global population issues.

Winners of the IUSSP Early Career Awards receive recognition at the IUSSP International Population Conference, where they have the opportunity to present their work to an audience of experts and peers in the field. This exposure not only enhances their professional reputation but also provides valuable opportunities for networking and collaboration with leading demographers and population scientists from around the world.

The IUSSP Early Career Awards play a crucial role in nurturing the next generation of population scientists, encouraging innovative research, and supporting the professional development of early-career researchers. By recognizing their achievements and providing a platform for further growth, the awards contribute to the advancement of knowledge in population studies and the development of effective policies and programs that address population-related challenges.

Benefits

The Awards will come with a Certificate and a Free Registration for the next International Population Conference of the IUSSP (IPC 2025, Brisbane, Australia), where they will be presented in an Awards ceremony.
