Job Summary:
The Nurse at Hopes Home’s Supportive Living facility is a primary caregiver for children with complex medical needs. The role includes hands-on medical care and a holistic approach to each child’s health, working collaboratively with staff, families, and healthcare teams.
Responsibilities:
Nursing Care:
- Administer medications, gastric tube feeds, and tracheotomy care.
- Monitor ventilator equipment and oxygen saturation.
- Develop and manage nursing care plans for children.
- Promote independence by helping children manage their own medical care.
- Oversee the home and provide guidance to staff when necessary.
- Respond to emergency situations efficiently, accompanying children to hospitals when needed.
- Perform physical assessments and daily evaluations of children requiring nursing interventions.
Education:
- Teach children about needle safety, physiology, and biology.
- Support families in understanding care plans and advocating for educational needs.
Administration:
- Update medical records and perform narcotic medication counts.
- Ensure safety and public health guidelines are followed.
- Collaborate with Public Health in case of communicable illnesses and outbreaks.
- Occupational Health and Safety:
- Promote a psychologically safe work environment.
- Report and resolve safety hazards.
- Ensure OHS legislative requirements are met.
Qualifications:
- Practicing License in good standing with SALPN, CRNS, or RPNA.
- Minimum 2 years of pediatric experience (preferred).
- CPR Level BLS and First Aid certification.
- Experience with ventilators and TLR training (preferred).
- Valid driver’s license.

Working Conditions:
- Shift work rotates every four weeks.
- Exposure to unpredictable behaviors, cleaning chemicals, and bodily fluids.
- Driving of children required.
- Physical exertion of up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs regularly, and 25 lbs continuously.
