The Sasol Foundation Bursary Programme is a comprehensive scholarship initiative designed to support talented and deserving students in South Africa who wish to pursue higher education in fields critical to the country’s development, particularly in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Established by Sasol, a leading global integrated chemicals and energy company, the bursary program aims to nurture the next generation of professionals and leaders who will drive innovation and growth in South Africa.
The Sasol Foundation Bursary is open to South African students who have demonstrated academic excellence and possess a strong passion for their chosen fields of study. The bursary is particularly focused on students from disadvantaged backgrounds, helping to remove the financial barriers that often prevent them from accessing higher education. By providing this support, Sasol aims to contribute to social upliftment and economic empowerment in South Africa.
The bursary covers a wide range of expenses, making it one of the most comprehensive scholarship programs in the country. Recipients receive full coverage of tuition fees, accommodation, meals, and study materials. In addition, the bursary provides students with a monthly allowance to help with personal expenses, ensuring they can focus entirely on their studies without the distraction of financial concerns.
Beyond financial support, the Sasol Foundation Bursary Programme also offers a range of additional benefits designed to enhance the academic and personal development of its recipients. This includes mentorship opportunities, access to industry experts, and practical work experience through internships at Sasol. These opportunities allow students to gain valuable insights into their fields, develop their professional skills, and build networks that will be beneficial in their future careers.
The bursary program covers a variety of disciplines, with a strong emphasis on STEM fields such as chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, and information technology. However, Sasol also recognizes the importance of other fields essential to the country’s growth and offers bursaries in areas such as environmental science, health sciences, and finance.
One of the key objectives of the Sasol Foundation Bursary Programme is to contribute to the development of South Africa’s workforce by ensuring that the country has a steady pipeline of skilled professionals. The program aligns with Sasol’s broader commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility, as it helps to address the skills gap in critical sectors of the economy.
Recipients of the bursary are not only supported during their studies but also given the opportunity to join Sasol’s Graduate Development Programme upon completion of their degrees. This program helps new graduates transition into the workforce, providing them with hands-on experience, further training, and the chance to start their careers within one of South Africa’s leading companies.
The Sasol Bursary programmes for South African youth are a critical talent lever to enable us to meet our strategic and transformation talent objectives.
