The UN SDG Action Awards, a signature programme of the UN SDG Action Campaign, champions initiatives and committed individuals who are wielding the power of creativity and innovation to bring us closer to a more sustainable, equitable and peaceful world.
Anyone can mobilize action and achieve impact, even in the most challenging places and times. The campaign is committed to showcasing heroes changing the world, and sending a message of hope and infinite possibilities.
Each year, a high-level Panel of Judges and a technical review team consider over 5,000 applications and nominations from 190 countries. They select Finalists and then the Winners. The 2024 UN SDG Action Awards Ceremony will be held in October 2024 in Rome, Italy.
The United Nations SDG Action Award Program is an initiative of the UN SDG Action Campaign, designed to recognize and celebrate individuals, organizations, and initiatives that are making significant contributions toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The awards aim to highlight innovative and impactful efforts that drive progress in areas such as sustainability, equity, and peace.
The program features three main categories of awards: Creativity, Impact, and Changemaker. The Creativity Award honors campaigns that utilize creative mediums—such as art, music, digital media, and theater—to mobilize action and shift public perceptions towards achieving the SDGs. The Impact Award recognizes initiatives that have achieved substantial measurable improvements in areas like health, inclusion, economic stability, and environmental protection. The Changemaker Award celebrates individuals who have made remarkable contributions to their communities, standing up for justice and human rights and leading movements for change .
Finalists in each category are invited to participate in a one-day Induction Programme held in Rome, Italy, where they can engage in creative workshops, skill development sessions, and networking events. This is followed by the UN SDG Action Awards Ceremony, which is broadcast globally and features performances by international artists. Winners and finalists receive a customized trophy and global recognition through various UN platforms.

Finalists will receive the following:
- UN SDG Action Awards Ceremony and Finalist Induction Programme participation: One representative from each finalist initiative will be invited to attend the UN SDG Action Awards Ceremony and Finalist Induction Programme in Rome, Italy in October 2024. The one-day Induction Programme in Rome offers creative workshops, skills development sessions and networking prior to the inspiring UN SDG Action Awards Ceremony that subsequently unveils and celebrates the winners. Flight and accommodation expenses will be covered by the UN SDG Action Campaign.
- Global Recognition: Finalists and winners will receive international promotion and amplification through various UN platforms and beyond.
- Customized Trophy: Winners and finalists will each receive a prestigious trophy.
Requirements For The United Nations SDG Action Award Program
- Campaigns/Initiatives must demonstrate proven results accordingly with the 2024 Categories within the last three years (thus campaigns/initiatives in the planning/conceptualization phase are not eligible).
- Initiatives led by United Nations entities and national governments will only be considered for honorable mentions.

All finalists will be contacted by the UN SDG Action Campaign by September 2024

To apply to the Creativity or Impact category or to (self-)nominate a Changemaker, please fill in each section of the application/(self-)nomination form. Your application/(self-)nomination can be saved and edited. Once submitted, you will no longer be able to edit or view your application/(self-)nomination.
To (self-)nominate to the Changemaker Award please prepare a response to each section of the application form. All sections and questions are mandatory, except for those marked as ‘optional’. Only complete applications will be considered by the selection committee.
Applications are to be submitted electronically through the SurveyMonkey apply platform. In order to submit an application or nomination, applicants can login to create a SurveyMonkey Apply account via an existing Facebook, X, Google account OR can create a new account with an email address. If applicants already have an existing SurveyMonkey Apply account, they can use their existing account.
For applicants encountering challenges with access to the internet, this form can be completed and sent in by post. Please see the instructions at the end of this document if you need to submit a postal application.
