2024 UNHCR Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative Scholarship Programme for Refugee Students.

The UNHCR Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative (DAFI) Scholarship Program is a remarkable initiative aimed at providing educational opportunities for refugees worldwide. Established in 1992 by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in partnership with the German government and the Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative, DAFI has since empowered thousands of refugees to pursue higher education.

One of the distinguishing features of the DAFI program is its focus on enabling refugees to access tertiary education in their host countries. This approach recognizes the transformative power of education in not only rebuilding lives but also in fostering self-reliance and resilience among refugee populations. By offering scholarships for bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, DAFI equips refugees with the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute meaningfully to their communities and beyond.

The program provides financial assistance to cover tuition fees, study materials, and other essential expenses associated with pursuing higher education. Additionally, DAFI scholars receive academic and psycho-social support, mentorship, and access to internships and employment opportunities, facilitating their integration into the academic and professional spheres.

Beyond its immediate impact on individual beneficiaries, the DAFI program contributes to broader humanitarian and development goals by investing in human capital and promoting social inclusion. By investing in the education of refugees, DAFI not only honors the legacy of Albert Einstein, a refugee himself, but also embodies the principles of solidarity, equality, and opportunity espoused by the UNHCR.

The UNHCR Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative (DAFI) Scholarship Program stands as a beacon of hope for refugees, offering a pathway to a brighter future through the transformative power of education.

DAFI- (Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative Fund) is an earmarked voluntary Fund donated to UNHCR by Ministry of Foreign affairs of the Federal government of Germany. In Partnership with UNHCR-Uganda, Windle International Uganda is the local implementing partner of the DAFI Scholarship Programme.
