2024 AFS Global STEM Accelerators Programme Girls in STEM.

The AFS Global STEM Accelerators Program is an innovative initiative designed to empower young learners with the skills, knowledge, and experiences necessary to excel in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Developed by AFS Intercultural Programs, a leading international education organization, this program aims to inspire and prepare the next generation of STEM leaders and innovators through immersive learning experiences and cross-cultural exchange.

At its core, the AFS Global STEM Accelerators Program seeks to address the growing demand for STEM talent and promote diversity and inclusion in STEM fields. Through a combination of hands-on activities, project-based learning, and mentorship opportunities, participants gain practical skills, critical thinking abilities, and a deeper understanding of STEM concepts and principles.

One of the key features of the program is its emphasis on fostering intercultural competence and global citizenship among participants. By bringing together students from diverse backgrounds and countries, the program creates opportunities for cross-cultural dialogue, collaboration, and mutual learning. Participants gain a broader perspective on global issues and develop the skills and attitudes needed to thrive in an interconnected world.

The AFS Global STEM Accelerators Program offers a range of activities and experiences tailored to the needs and interests of participants. This may include laboratory experiments, design challenges, coding workshops, field trips to STEM-related organizations, and interactions with STEM professionals and researchers. Participants also have the opportunity to engage in community service projects that apply STEM knowledge to address local and global challenges.

The AFS Global STEM Accelerators Program serves as a catalyst for personal growth, academic enrichment, and global engagement. By inspiring young learners to pursue STEM careers and fostering a sense of curiosity, creativity, and collaboration, the program aims to empower individuals to make meaningful contributions to the advancement of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, both locally and globally.

AFS Global STEM Accelerators are 12-week digital programs (from home), engaging in content on global competence skills, social impact, and sustainability-focused workshops, with content co-developed by AFS and the University of Pennsylvania. This program culminates with student-led social impact projects and presentations that offer potential solutions to real-world challenges, with an emphasis on climate change and the energy transition.

Scholars who complete the program earn the Advanced Certificate on Global Competence for Social Impact, awarded by AFS and the University of Pennsylvania Center for Social Impact Strategy.
