Who Can Apply?

Am I Eligible for the Summer Student Program?

If you’re considering applying for our summer student program, please ensure that you meet the following criteria:

You are currently enrolled as a master’s or diploma student in natural sciences (physical or life sciences) or related fields.

You hold a bachelor’s degree. For diploma degree programs, it is necessary to confirm the successful completion of the third year of studies before the approaching summer. You can demonstrate strong academic performance through your grades and provide a letter of recommendation from a professor or scientist at your university who is familiar with your work and can evaluate it.

You possess a valid university enrollment covering the entire duration of the program (student ID).

You have proficient English language skills to fully engage in all program activities.

Applicants who already hold a master’s degree but are not enrolled in another master’s course, as well as PhD students, are ineligible for the program.

Students who had a contract with HZDR one year prior to July 1 of the targeted year are not eligible for the summer student program.

Follow these steps to complete your application:

Fill out the application form.

When completing the form, ensure to:

Provide necessary personal and educational information. Specify if you will be enrolled as a university student during the HZDR summer student program.

Indicate your availability period. Note that a minimum stay of 6 weeks and a maximum of 9 weeks is required. Attendance during the core lecture period from July 29 to August 30 is mandatory; no exceptions will be made.

Rank proposed research fields based on your preferences. You may also exclude certain fields, but keep in mind that excluding more fields decreases your acceptance likelihood.

Choose the type of work you prefer (experimental with data processing, theoretical with programming).

Upon completing the form, press “Save” to proceed to the next page, where you’ll upload your documents.

Beforehand, ensure you have prepared:

A Curriculum Vitae in English (pdf).

Academic grades English translation (pdf).

A copy of your student ID (image file).

Any additional required documents.

Note: Uploaded documents cannot be deleted or replaced.

After uploading your documents, click “Finish registration.” You’ll receive a link for a professor or senior scientist from your university to upload a letter of recommendation. Ensure this letter is submitted before the deadline.

Acceptance or rejection notifications will be sent via email once selections are made, no later than mid-April 2024.

The application period ends on February 23, 2024.
