The 2024 pool for the International Experience Canada (IEC) program is now open for applications.
As many as 90,000 youths from 36 different countries will have the chance to apply for this program, which offers the opportunity to work, travel, and live in Canada. This increase in applicants comes after a 20% boost was announced in December of last year.
Through the IEC program, young people can immerse themselves in new cultures, learn new languages and develop important life skills while also boosting their employment prospects for the future.
The program is designed to support sectors that have been severely impacted by labor shortages, such as the tourism industry, according to the IRCC.
This is an excellent opportunity for young people looking to broaden their horizons and experience the Canadian way of life while gaining valuable work experience.
The IEC program promises to be a life-changing experience for those who are accepted into the program.
What is the IEC Program?
The International Experience Canada (IEC) program is a unique opportunity for young people from 36 participating countries to temporarily live and work in Canada.
The program provides successful applicants with a Canadian work permit without the need for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).
The work permits are valid for a maximum of one year.
The primary aim of the IEC program is to give youth between the ages of 18-29, 18-30, or 18-35 (depending on the nationality of the applicant) the chance to explore Canada while gaining work experience.
There are three streams to choose from when applying to the program:
- Working Holiday
- Young Professionals
- International Co-op Internship
It’s important to note that the IEC program operates differently with each of the participating countries.
For this reason, some countries may only offer one or two of the IEC programs, while others may offer all three.
How to Apply
To apply for the IEC program, foreign nationals must follow a five-step process:
Step One: Create an IEC profile on the IEC website, ensuring they meet the eligibility requirements.
Step Two: Receive an Invitation to Apply, issued through regular draws conducted by IEC. Candidates should verify their country’s quotas to understand their chances of being selected.
Step Three: Accept the Invitation to Apply within 10 days of receiving it, and then submit an online application for a work permit within 20 days.
Step Four: Submit a complete work permit application online using the IRCC web portal.
Step Five: Upon successful application, the applicant will receive confirmation of their work permit and the validity period of their authorization to work in Canada.
